KeySplint Printed Bite Splints

KeySplint Printed Bite Splints are 3D-printed, temperature-responsive occlusal appliances designed to protect against bruxism and safeguard new restorative work, all without sacrificing comfort.
Printed from KeySplint Hard/Soft resin, these appliances soften slightly at intraoral temperature so they adapt to the dentition in the mouth while remaining strong and fracture-resistant in use. Patients feel less pressure, more even contact, and a smoother transition into wearing a nightguard.
Every splint is printed in-house at Derby using advanced print settings and a cassette polishing process that produces a high-clarity, glass-like finish. Designs are created with AI-assisted setup and always refined by a technician, so fit and occlusion are predictable from case to case.
When It Makes Sense
Bruxism Protection
Protection from grinding and clenching is a priority.
Restoration Protection
New crowns, veneers, or extensive restorative work need protection.
Improved Comfort
Patients have struggled with rigid or uncomfortable appliances.
Nightly Wear
Long-term, consistent nighttime use is expected.
Clear + Esthetic
Appearance and discretion support patient acceptance.
Moderate–Heavy Bruxers
Patients with moderate to heavy grinding or clenching.
New Restorative Work
Patients with new anterior or full-arch restorations.
Hard Guard Intolerance
Patients who have refused or abandoned traditional hard guards.
Why Derby
Temperature-adaptive comfort
KeySplint Hard/Soft materials soften slightly at body temperature, letting the splint contour more comfortably to the teeth. This improves patient compliance and reduces pressure points compared to fully rigid alternatives.
Strength that stands up to heavy use
KeySplint Hard/Soft is FDA-cleared, fracture-resistant resins. Combined with Derby’s validated print and cure protocols, they provide long-term durability for bruxers and protection for new restorations.
Ultra-clear printing and cassette polishing
We use specialized optical print settings and cassette polishing to create a smooth, optically clear finish. This elevates esthetics and helps remove micro-surface irregularities that can contribute to wear or plaque retention.
AI-driven design with technician oversight
Each case starts with AI-assisted design to standardize fundamentals like thickness, occlusal scheme, and contact. A Derby technician then reviews and refines the design so it seats cleanly and requires minimal chairside adjustment.
Easy reprints if ever lost
Because every splint is driven from a stored digital design file, lost or damaged appliances can be reprinted as an exact duplicate — typically within a single manufacturing day.

FAQ
What are Derby KeySplint splints made from?
They are printed from KeySplint Hard/Soft or KeySplint Hard resins --- FDA-cleared materials known for clarity, fracture resistance, and temperature-adaptive comfort.
How long do these splints last?
Longevity depends on patient habits and parafunctional load, but KeySplint materials are highly fracture-resistant and perform well for long-term nightly wear. Printed and Milled splints are the strongest and longest lasting options.
Are they comfortable?
Yes. These splints soften slightly in the mouth, allowing them to adapt to tooth contours and reduce pressure points, which often improves patient compliance.
Do you offer upper and lower versions?
Yes. Derby fabricates KeySplint splints for either arch. Dual-arch designs are not common but available.
How fast can I get a splint?
Digital iOS scans receive a 3-day express turnaround. Traditional impressions follow a 5-day in-lab schedule.
What if the patient loses their splint?
Because the design file is stored digitally, we can reprint an exact duplicate, typically within one manufacturing day.
What printing technology do you use?
We use advanced 3D printers from Carbon and HeyGears that are both validated for KeySplint materials to support clarity, accuracy, and strength.
Can these splints protect new restorations?
Yes. Their combination of strength and adaptive comfort makes them well-suited for protecting crowns, veneers, and other restorative work.
