Airtho Clear Aligners

Airtho Clear Aligners are Derby Dental Lab's clear aligner solution, powered by our sister company Airtho and supported by orthodontist oversight on every case. This is a full orthodontic system designed specifically for general dentists---not a "light" or consumer-focused aligner.
Cases are digitally planned using CBCT (when available), intraoral scans, photos, and detailed clinical notes. All aligners are fabricated from Zendura FLX, a three-layer, multi-ply material engineered for controlled force delivery, durability, and advanced movement capability. The result is a GP-friendly pathway to finish clear aligner cases with confidence.
Two protocol families are available:
- SmileShapers -- Airway-neutral, traditional biomechanics.
- Airligners -- Airway-forward protocols focused on arch form, function, and airway-conscious movement.
Both are GP-focused systems with orthodontic oversight, digital monitoring, and a workflow built for busy practices.
SmileShapers vs Airligners
SmileShapers (Airway-neutral)
- Traditional orthodontic biomechanics
- Ideal for GPs who want a familiar movement philosophy
- Great for straightening, bite refinement, and cosmetic alignment
- Minimal reliance on aggressive IPR or attachment-heavy protocols
Airligners (Airway-forward)
- Airway-conscious approach with a focus on arch form and functional improvement
- Designed for broader arch development and more advanced movement planning
- Supports cases where airway, posture, or functional concerns are part of the treatment conversation
Both systems:
- Use the same Zendura FLX multi-layer material
- Include orthodontist oversight
- Plug into the same portal, monitoring, and support framework
Turnaround
Turnaround
- Standard initial aligner series: approximately 2 weeks
- Refinements: approximately 2 weeks
- Retainers: included with comprehensive treatment

FAQ
What material are the aligners made from?
All aligners are made from Zendura FLX, a three-layer, multi-ply material designed for consistent force delivery, durability, and comfort.
How is this different from "lite" aligner systems or consumer-focused brands?
Airtho Clear Aligners are built for full orthodontic treatment with orthodontist oversight, airway-aware protocols, and robust planning tools---not just minor tooth movements.
Do SmileShapers and Airligners both support full-arch movement?
Yes. Both systems support full-arch orthodontic movement under orthodontist guidance.
How much IPR and how many attachments are typically used?
Many cases can be completed with little or no IPR and fewer attachments due to the biomechanics and material performance. When IPR or attachments are needed, they are planned intentionally---not by default.
Do I get orthodontist support on my cases?
Yes. Every case includes review and guidance from Airtho's orthodontic team.
Can I use my current intraoral scanner?
Yes. Digital scans from major scanners are accepted. Additionally, qualifying offices may be eligible for a Trios 5 scanner placement through the iOS Advantage program.
How does Dental Monitoring work?
Patients use the Dental Monitoring app to capture scans at set intervals. The orthodontic team and the practice can review progress remotely and intervene when needed.
Are retainers and refinements included?
Yes. Comprehensive cases include retainers and refinements as part of the treatment program.
What's the typical turnaround time?
Approximately 2 weeks for the initial aligner series and refinements after case approval.
What’s the difference between Y3, Y4, and Y5?
